Since 1988 I have worked as a registered paramedic throughout Alberta in both land and air medivac applications providing advanced life support (ALS) coverage for professional athletes, performers, inmates, and urban and rural Albertans (some in BC and Saskatchewan). As paramedics, ask any of us, we often wear many hats and emergency medical services or EMS as we call it provides clinical expertise in all sorts of locales. I truly believe we have some of the best advanced life support providers on the entire globe. Way to go Alberta!
I have also owned a sport, leisure and special event photography company (2005-2010). Working with my wife (Karen; creative assistant) and my kids (Tyler, Brittany and Sydney) as we covered many sport, leisure and special event photography gigs. Thanks fam!
While making time to complete a degree at Athabasca University and obtain my Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation I have been working full time as a safety professional (2005-present) for numerous large industrial companies.
I have never let go of my interest in photography. Currently, I have made the leap to mirror-less technology (don't get me started) and have since sold most of my Nikon glass, SLRs (D70, D2H, D2X, D500) and various studio lighting (Elinchrome).
I currently find myself with a Sony A6000 and a Fujifim XT2 after a brief sabbatical. And, a Canon EOS M6 (for vlogging). What? Vloggin too? Yea, I am a work in progress here. Where did those come from? Well, it's a long story. Hey, they just appeared one-day. Really, they did. I am sure we will share more on this later. Three amazing feats of technology here. It is remarkable what we humans can accomplish.
With the kids [now] growing up and getting out of the house my focus has been to re-kindle my relationship with still capture and video. Yes, video. We will see how that goes. I suspect this will include vlogging/blogging, greater exposure to the outdoors and interests shared by my wife and myself: to explore and discover the beauty of the mostly Canadian outdoors.
Currently, we have relocated to BC. More specifically, Vancouver Island. There will be plenty more to come. For me, the journey continues: “Rocks & Water”, I say. And, for an old Ontario boy growing up in Northern Ontario it’s nice to be back to familiar scenery that for a time took great[er] lengths to achieve inland in my past geographical locations. Here, it is in my back yard! I have been away (quite literally) far too long. Funny how careers do that.
